Okay, so our summer is almost over! It is definitely flying by quicker than I want it too, but it's alright because it's time for Mikey and I to kick school's butt so we can graduate :). In two years, give or take. So in commemoration of our summer ending, we're going to finish blogging our summer events before we forget everything.
After our wonderful two weeks of Utah, we headed to the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Unfortunately, we had some rough traveling, and ended up landing at two in the morning. So we stayed one night in the airport hotel and then took a 3-hour car service ride to Delaware at 9:30 that same morning. We were pretty beat to say the least. But we were so excited to go to South Carolina! Dad got us a rental car deal, so we were able to drive a Honda Sonata down. (I love our jeep, but that Honda Sonata got AMAZING gas mileage. If we purchase a car, that one will definitely be on our list.)
My baby drove the whole 12 hour trip. He's amazing. We had a lot of fun :)
Right before we left, we stopped in Salisbury, Maryland for the most delicious pretzels ever! I haven't had any other kind since. (And that's saying something because I am a sucker for pretzels.) They are Auntie Anne's Pretzels, and they are fabulous! We stopped here at least another three times before we left the mainland.
Here's a picture of the awesome sunset we caught as we drove down.
I'm pretty sure this is in Virginia. This was the most I've seen of the east coast and it is beautiful, but very different from the northwest and the west coast.
So every now and then Mikey whips out this southern accent he learned on his mission. It always makes me laugh. I mean the most south I've lived is Florida, and Florida isn't the south.
As we're driving through North Carolina at about 1:45 am we were both starving and the only place that was open at our pit stop was Burger King. (We are not fans of fast food. And on the mainland we had to eat out a lot.) Mikey really wanted Wendy's instead and he found one 17 minutes away. (Wendy's closed at 2am) So he calls and he pulls out the most southern drawl I have ever heard to sweet talk the people at Wendy's. Of course, it's so genuine the workers buy it and stay open long enough that Mikey can "git him sum of that numba 6." HAHA. It was so funny.
However, the most laughable part is that when we pulled up to Wendy's, I heard the other workers talking and they had these deeeeeep southern accents! I totally thought they were mocking Mikey!! Only to find that people really do talk like that. Mikey is really that good :) He was so pleased with himself.
We finally got to South Carolina! This is the Arthur Ravenel Bridge. We arrived at around 5 am Sunday morning. Mikey was such a stud, he drove the whole way and let me sleep the last hour or so.
At 9:30am, we went to the Mount Pleasant ward and I met some really amazing sweet people! We got to spend some time with the Ferguson family, and I got to see what an amazing person Mikey has and always is. Then we ate at Sticky Fingers that night and the South has the best barbecue I've ever had. I don't know what they feed their pigs, but they've got it down.
The next day, we ate at Melvin's BBQ! This was the best pulled pork bbq sandwich ever!
Those donut looking things are onion rings. ONION RINGS! They are BOMB!
We actually ran into some people from the ward, the Holidays. They were really nice to talk to and the food was the best.
Water tower of Mt. Pleasant
The Arthur Ravenel Bridge.
We decided to try our hand at crab fishing!
My baby's so pro! We didn't have any luck, but it was worth the try.
There is so much history down in the south. We got to see a lot of military ships and monuments.
Another amazing sunset in South Carolina.
South Carolina is absolutely beautiful.
This lighthouse was on Sullivan's Island. And it was beautiful.
And we went to the beach on Sullivan's Island. It was at night, but it was still really nice and warm.
The next day we got to hang out with some of Mkey's mission friends at Wild Wings. We pretended that it was Mckay's birthday and he got a really yummy brownie sundae. It was a lot of fun and I think Mikey enjoyed playing with the boys. :)
These are some of the beautiful trees in South Carolina.
Mikey showed me a really cute swing and we think Dear John could have been filmed here, if it was filmed in this state.
The next day, we went to the Boone Hall Plantations, where the Notebook, North and South, and Queen was filmed.
On the way there we saw this piece of work. I guess anything convenient goes now-a-days.
They had a really weird presentation of the slave's history. These mannequins are bizarre.
But this is where the Notebook was filmed!! This is the gate that Noah goes up too!!
Some of the oldest oaks in the United States.
Mikey did the Notebook speech about Allie.
On Thursday, the Goltra's had us over for dinner, and they asked us out on their amazing boat. The Beyacht.
It went so fast! :) We had so much fun.
It was beautiful being out on the water!
And we got to go swimming! The water felt so good but the current was really strong.
We got to hang out with the Florez family twice. They were absolutely amazing, and I'm so glad Mikey had people like them on his mission. And I am so happy I had the honor of meeting them!
Jose and Mikey being silly :)
This was our last time on the bridge. We were able to do so much, but the trip wasn't long enough at all. We can't wait to go back.

Sorry for such a long post, but it was an absolutely amazing trip! We are so happy we had the opportunity to go.
